The land we walk on is native land. Chicago is located on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Council of the Three Fires: The Potawatomi, Ojibwe, & Odawa Nations. The people of many other nations, including Peoria, Kaskaskia, Miami, Ho-Chunk, Mascouten, Sac and Fox, Kickapoo, Menomonee, and tribes whose names have been lost, also consider this area home. Chicago is now home to one of the largest Urban American Indian communities that contribute to the life of this city and continue to honor their land & waterways, traditions, and heritage.
